Brian and I began going to a church called Steadfast-Gretna last March. One of the hardest parts when we first were married was finding a church and deciding what we were looking for. We knew we wanted good teaching and fellowship, but also finding a place to serve. We had visited Steadfast a couple of times prior but we decided we would try it consistently and see if it was the place for us. I know that may sound selfish but we just wanted a place where we felt at home and comfortable. Not the kind of comfortable where you aren't challenged but a place where you know you can confess and be honest about life. As we regularly went to Steadfast, that is what we began feeling. There are people in the same season of life as us and there are others in different seasons. We all have come from different backgrounds and have different struggles but because of what Jesus did, we can come together and worship Him. Over time it has become such a family to us and I cannot express how thankful we are for that.
Yesterday, we realized just how much of a family it is. We were able to witness what the body of Christ is supposed to look like. We saw members of our family step up to help out another family member. It was not just helping in a physical sense of stepping up but also giving grace and love and truly showing Christ's love. It was truly an amazing thing to see others make sacrifices and lay down themselves for another.
"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin." 1 John 1:7
I believe the verse above tells us that fellowship with other believers is a gift from God. Every time we go to church on Sunday or have our Bible studies, I feel that we get a glimpse of the fellowship we will have with our Savior and each other...and I can't wait!
